The highly anticipated Zanzibar FC draft was held on Sunday, 15th September and with 110 players to choose from the 10 team captains had a lot of thinking to do.

The top 2 draft pics for this season were veteran strikers Shani Kara and Abbas Hasham, with ZFC rookie Nayu Akbar coming in 3rd.

Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi celebrates Zanzibar FC’s expansion to 10 teams.

Due to the overwhelming number applicants for the hotly anticipated 2013/2014 ZFC season, the league has been expanded to 10 teams.

The original 96 spots were filled up in a record breaking 2 hours and 44 minutes and the application forms kept on coming in.

With the expansion there will now be 120 players taking part in the new season and therefore the 10 team captains will have a lot of research to do before this weekend’s draft.

Zanzibar FC 2013/2014 Registration

Registration for Zanzibar FC starts at 8pm on Thursday, 5th September. Sign up early to avoid disappointment.

Registration for the Zanzibar FC 2013/2014 season starts at 8:00pm on Thursday, 5th September 2013.

The entry fee is $185 per player.

The entry fee includes 14 league games, play-offs and a jersey.

The season will start in October 2013 and will run through to April/May 2014.

Undefeated league champions Mozambique Stars will be looking for a routine victory over Gor Mahia on their way to completing the league and cup double.

All yellow-cards are reset for the playoffs.

A 3-2 win over AFC Leopards on the final day of the season sees the Stars finish four-points ahead of rivals Manama FC.

Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha (Manchester United) is sent off for assaulting Álvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid) at Old Trafford during their Champions League encounter.

The final round of league games has been postponed to 6th April.

The only thing between Mozambique Stars and the league title are the AFC Leopards.

Mozambique need all-three points to secure the league title, a draw would most probably be good enough due to their superior goal difference.

A Mozambique draw would mean Manama FC could win the league by beating Gymkhana by nine clear goals in their final game.
