After the mid-week transfer sagas, football was once again on the agenda on Saturday night for Week 2 of the Zanzibar FC season.

One of the pre-season favourites, Harambee Stars demolished Mogoka FC 8-0 with Shani Kara equalling a ZFC scoring record with five goals. New signing Mohammed Mahdi, Mohamed Imran Amirali and Abbas Rustom all got on the score sheet adding to Mogoka FC gaffer Jabir Alidina’s misery.

Chipolopolo and Indomitable Lions shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw with the Lions coming from 2-1 behind to level with the clock ticking down.

In what was billed as a relegation clash only two games into the season, Mozambique Stars edged past Gymkhana 3-2 in a heated affair which saw Sohail Najarali and Sajjad Najarali being booked. Mozambique took a shock lead within minutes of kick-off with new boy Hasanain Rashid opening his account with a bullet. Mozambique went 3-0 up before Gymkhana pulled two back, but it was too little too late for Muna’s boys.

Bafana Bafana showed no mercy as they destroyed Polisi Dodoma 7-1 to go top of the table with two wins out of two and a goal difference of +9. Polisi Dodoma may be heading back into the transfer market as they are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table having lost both opening games and conceding a whopping 16 goals.

In the final game of the night, the Kakamega Homeboyz sneaked past Taifa Stars 2-1 in a game that was expected to be a straightforward win for the Homeboyz. In the post-match press conference, Homeboyz manager, Taha Ali, called the result a wake-up call for everyone associated with the club and said that he would not tolerate any complacency next week.
